Release 4.48 - 24th January

Road Map Updates

Other Skills and Training

Continuing to build on AEB initial ILR creation functionality we have added more functionality to this area around employment status and aim creation. Functionality added in this release includes:

  • Permitting the entry of all valid employment statuses for AEB delivery thus removing any Apprenticeship only restrictions that require a leaner to be in current employment
  • Adding validation to ensure that if a learner is Employed (EmpStat = 10), a valid employment Intensity Indicator (EII) is also captured as required.
  • Adding validation to ensure that if a learner is not in paid employment, looking for work and available to start work (EmpStat = 11), a valid Length of Unemployment (LOU) is also captured as required.
  • Where an AEB programme is created that has no delivery aims and/or Functional Skills aims mandated in the programme set-up an ILR will now be created but without the Learning Delivery tab being populated. An option to manually add aims will be present, as shown below, however, this method will result in an “override” being applied and will be reliant upon the provider to ensure the data entered is complete and compliant.

Please note: The minimum required fields for an aim to be present in an XML output are

  • Learning Aim Reference Number
  • Start Date
  • Planned End Date
  • Valid Aim Type (i.e. it is not valid to have a component aim without a programme aim)

These values alone will permit the manual entry of an aim into the XML output but will not constitute a valid aim record for funding purposes. Bud would always recommend ensuring that aims are added at programme level to ensure consistency of data.

New Data warehouse Item

Following on from the launch of the new OTJH log on the 10th of January, we are bringing the OTJH Log details into the data warehouse. You will be able to report on the pending, planned and actual off the job hours for each activity against a learning plan.

  • The pending state will only apply to hours that have been submitted by the Learner or Trainer using the logs and not hours added via a submission.
  • For hours added at submission, they will be included in the total hours recorded for the activity.

IMPORTANT: Faster Data Warehouse Access

To improve the service Bud offers to our reporting users, we have now implemented a scale-out solution for the Bud Data Warehouse.

This means that behind the scenes, there are now two, fully synchronised servers available and a load-balancer will automatically pick the best one to fulfil your request.

If you haven’t already done so, please amend your Data Warehouse connection strings as follows:

In PowerBI Desktop:

  • Select the ‘Enable SQL Server Failover support’ under Transform data > Data source settings.

When reports are published to the PowerBI service, this will reduce the refresh times of your report in PowerBI.com too.

Connecting from a client other than PowerBI:

We can tell the load balancer that we’re only reading data by adding the following to the connection string:  ApplicationIntent=ReadOnly

  • In SSMS this can be added under Additional Connection Properties:

  • Please note you must also specify the database name as well:

  • Azure Data Factory (ADF):Edit the relevant linked service, and add a new additional connection property:
