Introduction
This article will explain the calculation used to generate the new Learning Planned End Date when a learner returns from a break in learning (BIL).
The calculation used for the new Learning Planned End Date
When returning a learner from a BIL, Bud uses the following calculation.
Bud calculates the amount of days that are remaining of the original planned programme duration when a learner goes on a BIL. On return from a break, this value is added to the new Learning Start Date to calculate the new Learning Planned End Date value as in Example 1:
Example 1: calculation for a learner who takes a break in learning before their original learning planned end date:
Learning Start Date: 23/01/2023
Learn Planned End Date: 23/04/2024
Original planned duration (days): 456
("Learning Planned End Date" - "Learning Start Date")
Break In Learning Started: 01/06/2023
Break ended: 01/09/2023
Days on programme prior to break starting: 129
("Break In Learning Started" - "Learning Start Date")
Original planned duration remaining (days): 327
("Original Planned Duration (Days)" - "Days on programme prior to break starting")
New Learning Start Date: 01/09/2023
New Learning Planned End Date: 24/07/2024
("New Learning Start Date" + "Original planned duration remaining (Days)")
Where the original planned duration remaining is zero days at the point of the Break In Learning (I.e. The learner is already past their original planned duration) as in example 2; the new Learning Planned End date will equal the Learning Start Date.
If you wish to change this Planned End Date value you can do so via the "Key Dates" section of learner overview, ensuring that you tick the checkbox to update the ILR.
Example 2: calculation for a learner who takes a break in learning after their original learning planned end date:
Learning Start Date: 23/01/2023
Learn Planned End Date: 23/04/2024
Original planned duration (days): 456
("Learning Planned End Date" - "Learning Start Date")
Break In Learning Started: 24/04/2024
Break ended: 01/09/2024
Days on programme prior to break starting: 457
("Break In Learning Started" - "Learning Start Date")
Original planned duration remaining (days): 0
("Original Planned Duration (Days)" - "Days on programme prior to break starting")
New Learning Start Date: 01/09/2024
New Learning Planned End Date: 01/09/2024
("New Learning Start Date" + "Original planned duration remaining (Days)")
