Reporting FAQs - Data Warehouse FAQs

Introduction

We've addressed the common questions about accessing and using the Data Warehouse. From getting access and managing IP addresses to integrating your data, we aim to help you get the best from the tools available.

How do I get access to the Data Warehouse reports?

Please ask your key contact to email DataWarehouseAccess@bud.co.uk to request access.  To secure your data, we will also need to know the IP address or range of IP addresses assigned to your office, or any location you might like to log in from.  The Data Warehouse team will send you your username and password, together with a Power BI template file (.pbit) that you can open in Power BI Desktop.

For more details please see the article about accessing the data warehouse here.

What if I have a dynamic IP address?

For the security of your data, the Data Warehouse is intended to be used from a known location, normally your place of work.  In the case of home or remote working, we can add a temporary IP address to our whitelist if you send a request to DataWarehouseAccess@bud.co.uk.  Alternatively, if your reports have already been published into the Power BI Service (PowerBI.com) you will be able to view your reports online from any location, using your Microsoft login.

For more details please see the article about using a dynamic IP address here.

Do I need to install Power BI Desktop?

If you would like to view the reports on your PC without a login to Power BI online, yes you do.

Do I need to install a Power BI connector?

No, there is now no need to install the Bud connector.

Can I view the reports from the Power BI Service (PowerBI.com)?

If you have a Microsoft Power BI account, yes.  An admin user of Power BI in your organisation is free to publish all, or some of the reports to PowerBI.com.  They can also schedule an auto-refresh so they are always up-to-date.

What do I do with my old Power BI reports template?

We’re confident that you will find the new templates much faster and easier to use, so there is no need to keep the old v1 reports.

How do I know which version of the reports I’m looking at?

The version number of the reports can be found at the bottom right of the menu page of the reports.  Version 1.x would be the old API reports.  Version 2.x signifies the new Data Warehouse reports.

Do you have a data dictionary?

Yes.  The data dictionary is included on the last page of the reports supplied.

For more details please see the article about how to use the data dictionary here.

I have built some of my own reports using the Bud Power BI connector.  Can I transfer these over?

The data model of the Data Warehouse reports is very different from the original API reports.  If you have Power BI skills in-house, swapping them over shouldn’t cause too much difficulty.  In the meantime, your API reports will continue to function.  Please refer to our reporting API documentation.  As an additional service, Bud may be able to offer consultancy to assist you with migrating your custom reports.

How do we integrate Bud data into our own Data Warehouse?

Certainly!  Please contact your Bud Customer Success Manager to discuss your requirements.

For more details please also see the article about how to extract your data into your own organisational data warehouse here.

How do I enable this the learner postcode heatmap in our tenancy?

Bud is unable to activate this for you please contact who administers your PowerBI.
